Dr. Shannon is board certified in pain management, in physical medicine and rehabilitation, as well as in electrodiagnostic medicine (EMG studies) - he is also certified in medical acupuncture for pain management. Dr. Shannon was a Colonel in the Army Medical Corps when he retired in 2003 after 20 years of service. He earned his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland and did his PM&R residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He received numerous awards in the Army, including a research award for his work in studying Myofascial Pain Syndrome. Dr. Shannon is skilled in many techniques designed to treat all types of chronic and cancer pain including complementary treatments such as acupuncture, prolotherapy, botulinum toxin injections, and ETOIMS (electrical twitch-obtaining intra-muscular stimulation). These modalities help many patients with chronic pain without the adverse side effects of medication. Dr. Shannon is a family man, with a wife and four daughters, a son-in-law, and a granddaughter. In his spare time he enjoys many activities, including skiing, bridge, and playing the bass guitar in his church’s praise band. |
